It seems that every few years, public interest in aliens and UFOs seems to surge. Recently, government hearings, military footage, whistleblower claims, and talk of “disclosure” have once again fueled speculation that humanity may not be alone in the universe. News outlets discuss unidentified aerial phenomena (UAPs), podcasts analyze alleged encounters, and social media algorithms are flooding feeds with theories ranging from extraterrestrial civilizations to secret government coverups.
As Christians, how should we think about all of this?
The Bible was written long before modern discussions about UFOs and alien life, yet it provides principles that help us navigate these questions with wisdom, discernment, and most importantly, faith.
What Do We Actually KNOW?
More than we used to, but still not very much. I think it is important to be reminded that one of the most important biblical principles is humility.
Proverbs 18:13 says, “If one gives an answer before he hears, it is his folly and shame.”
Much of the discussion surrounding aliens and disclosure is built on claims, theories, reports, and interpretations rather than confirmed facts. There are certainly unexplained phenomena in our world. There are things seen in the sky that governments cannot immediately identify. There are credible witnesses who report unusual experiences.
However, “unexplained” does not automatically mean “extraterrestrial.”
Throughout history, people have often rushed to fill gaps in their knowledge with speculation. Christians should be careful not to confuse possibilities with certainties. We can acknowledge that there are mysteries while refusing to jump to conclusions.
At this point, there is no publicly available evidence that conclusively proves intelligent extraterrestrial beings have visited Earth.
Could God Have Created Life Elsewhere?
Many Christians assume that belief in alien life would somehow contradict Scripture.
The truth is that the Bible does not explicitly address whether God created life on other planets.
Genesis 1 presents God as the Creator of the heavens and the earth. Psalm 19 declares that the heavens proclaim the glory of God. The vastness of the universe reveals His power and wisdom.
If God chose to create life elsewhere in the universe, He certainly possesses the power to do so. Nothing about God’s nature would prevent Him from creating additional creatures beyond humanity.
The issue is not whether God could create life elsewhere. The issue is that Scripture never reveals that He did.
Therefore, Christians should avoid making dogmatic statements where the Bible remains silent.
The Uniqueness of Humanity
While Scripture does not explicitly rule out other life forms, it repeatedly emphasizes the unique role of humanity in God’s plan.
Genesis 1:26-27 tells us that mankind was created in the image of God.
Human beings occupy a special place in creation. We are not merely another species among many. We are image-bearers entrusted with stewardship over the earth.
Furthermore, the entire storyline of Scripture revolves around God’s relationship with humanity.
The fall of man.
The covenants.
The nation of Israel.
The incarnation of Christ.
The cross.
The resurrection.
The church.
The future kingdom.
Every major movement of redemptive history centers on God’s work among human beings.
Hebrews 2 emphasizes that Christ took on human nature to redeem fallen humanity. The Bible’s focus is overwhelmingly earth-centered because God’s redemptive plan is centered on mankind.
Are UFOs Demonic?
Possibly? Probably? Some Christians immediately conclude that every UFO report must be demonic activity.
While spiritual deception is certainly real, Scripture calls us to exercise discernment.
Not every strange event is demonic. Many reports may have perfectly natural explanations. Others may involve military technology, observational errors, psychological factors, or phenomena we do not yet understand.
At the same time, the Bible teaches that spiritual beings exist.
Ephesians 6:12 reminds us that we wrestle not against flesh and blood but against spiritual forces of evil.
If certain experiences involve messages that contradict Scripture, encourage false worship, deny Christ, or promote occult practices, Christians should recognize those as potential spiritual deceptions regardless of whether “aliens” are involved.
The Bible repeatedly warns that Satan disguises himself as an angel of light (2 Corinthians 11:14).
Our concern should not be identifying every mystery but testing every claim against the truth of God’s Word.
Well…What About Government Disclosure?
Many people are convinced that governments know far more than they are revealing. And if we are being honest, they probably do.
Governments have historically kept secrets regarding military technology, intelligence operations, and national security matters. It would not be surprising if some classified information remains hidden.
But Christians should remember that our faith does not rest upon what governments reveal or conceal.
Daniel watched empires rise and fall.
The early church lived under Rome.
Believers throughout history have survived periods of secrecy, corruption, and political uncertainty.
In every generation, God’s people have been tempted to believe that the next revelation, the next document, or the next disclosure will finally explain everything.
But Scripture points us to a greater certainty.
Deuteronomy 29:29 says:
“The secret things belong to the LORD our God, but the things that are revealed belong to us and to our children forever.”
God has not promised to reveal every mystery of the universe. He has revealed what we need to know for salvation and godly living.
Here’s The Real Question
The fascination with aliens often reveals something deeper.
People want to know:
Where did we come from? Are we alone? What is our purpose?
Is there intelligence beyond ourselves? Is there hope for the future?
Ironically, the Bible already answers those questions.
We came from God.
We are not alone because God is with us.
We were created for His glory.
The universe is governed by an infinitely intelligent Creator.
Our hope is found in Jesus Christ.
The gospel addresses humanity’s deepest questions far more profoundly than any disclosure announcement ever could.
Look to the Sky for the Right Reason
The Bible encourages us to look up—not because we are waiting for extraterrestrials, but because we are waiting for Christ.
The Christian hope is not that a hidden civilization will descend from the stars.
Our hope is that the King of Kings will return.
When believers become consumed with speculation about aliens, conspiracies, and secret knowledge, we risk being distracted from the mission Christ has given us.
The church’s calling remains unchanged:
Preach the gospel.
Make disciples.
Love God.
Love people.
Await Christ’s return.
Whether future discoveries reveal new mysteries about the universe or not, the central truth remains the same:
Jesus Christ is Lord over every galaxy, every star, every planet, every angel, every power, and every mystery.
And that is a truth no disclosure can improve upon.
“For by him all things were created, in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible… all things were created through him and for him.” (Colossians 1:16)
